Let?s celebrate International Day of Peace together 
Seventy years ago, the world adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Since then, it has become the most translated document in the world, with more than 500 language versions. It is also the theme for this year?s International Day of Peace, celebrated on September 21. In this issue of Helvetas Highlights, we honor that day by sharing our tools and experiences in peace and advocacy with you. There?s still a lot to be done ? let?s do it together.
How youth and adults bridge the generation gap in South Kyrgyzstan 
Over 500 young people from South Kyrgyzstan have traveled to Syria to support the Islamic State. We conducted research about the reasons that drive these young people to join the terrorist organization. While widespread poverty and youth unemployment play a big role, there is another factor that proved to be crucial. Learn more

Where basic human rights get violated, advocacy may need to go beyond the national level. The United Nations Human Rights System (UNHRS) is a ready-to-use tool for everyone through which national decision makers can be held to account. Helvetas has developed a guide that shows how it can be effectively used for advocacy.
